So, Arthurs Half was done... and a highlight, and as a result I was still reasonably fresh for Sundays race.

This was part of the Unitec Run & Walk Series which is designed as a series to lead you into the Auckland Marathon.

This week they were at Highbrook in a pretty new area of Auckland running 3 laps of a pretty straightforward road run... except for an annoying hill... up from the start and then down, and of course up and down each lap.
The day was fine but the wind was very chilly, so chilly that I was glad to have some extra layers in the car.

A tap on the shoulder just after registration led to me meeting Eric Ami Sila for the first time... another Facebook contact ticked off..... and what a great guy.

So for the second time in two days I headed off the line with a new running buddy at my shoulder, out onto the first lap and the body was feeling ok after Saturdays run and we set a nice measured pace. The presence of Eric kept me from overdoing it, but we were still covering the ground well.

Not a great deal to report... other than maybe that I got to see a lot of Alan Ure of
Photos4Sale this weekend. He and the team were covering The Legend and Arthurs Half on Saturday and he was out again on Sunday in Highbrook. Plus with 3 laps (4 for some), we got an extra dose of the camera.
About halfway through lap 2... well exactly halfway through Lap actually, I had just commented to Eric that we had done half of the race and he said for me to go and that he was struggling. At first I said no, I will run with you... but on reflection I realised that if I stretched him too far he may crash near the end and that I was probably better to let him run his own second half.

So away I went for a PB of sorts... I have only ever run negative splits on a road run once and that was my Half Marathon PB at Cambridge last year and it was only about a 40sec negative split. So a 2.5 minute negative split this day was a big improvement. The time of just a fraction over 1:45 for 4th place was also a big step up from recent weeks as well....
and sent me on my drive back to Rotorua in a good frame of mind.

Eric came in at 1:53:30 and was pretty happy with his day as well... so smiles all around.
Another Double weekend done and still in one piece (mostly)...
